How to grow on X from 0 with replies: the complete reply guy strategy
Small accounts have no distribution. Replies borrow it. Here's the whole routine — seven steps, five reply templates, and what people actually report about the method.
Starting from zero, posting is the slowest way to grow: you write, nobody sees it, the post dies. The accounts you admire have the one thing you don't: an audience already paying attention.
Replies let you borrow it: show up in threads where your people are already reading, every day, with something worth reading.
Why replies work
Replies are ranked content. A good one gets shown to people who follow neither of you.
Attention is real-time. Almost all of a thread's reading happens in the first hour.
The profile closes it. The reply earns the click; your profile decides the follow.
Seven steps to grow from 0
In order. Skipping the first one wastes the rest.
1. Set up your profile first
Your profile answers “why follow you?” in three seconds. People follow for one of five reasons. Pick one or two:

Then fix the four things a visitor looks at:
Bio — one subject, one audience, one line of proof.
Pinned post — your best thinking, not your product launch.
Recent posts — three or four on-topic, above the fold.
Link — one destination, not five.
2. Build a target account list
A written list of 20–30 accounts, in three tiers. Random replying gives random reach.

Big threads, brutal competition. You're buying impressions.

The workhorse tier. Replies get read, authors answer.

Peers. Pays back in a year, and pays back most.
One rule beats the rest: audience overlap matters more than follower count. A 4,000-follower account full of your exact people is worth more than 400,000 strangers.
3. Find posts worth replying to
Four checks. Fail one, move on.
In your niche. Reach from an unrelated thread converts to nothing.
Under an hour old. The first hour is where replies actually get read.
Not yet crowded. Reply 200 is furniture. Reply 12 gets seen.
You can add something. No new thought, no reply. Agreement isn't content.
One exception: older posts warming up again in the For You feed behave like fresh ones.
4. Write replies that resonate
Five formats cover almost everything. Templates below.
5. Run a daily routine you can keep
Ninety minutes, split three ways. The split matters more than the total: most people spend the whole hour hunting and have nothing left for the writing.
15 minutes — find. Fresh posts from your list, through lists and notifications rather than the feed.
45–60 minutes — write. Five to ten replies. Fewer and better beats more and faster, every week.
10 minutes — return. Go back to the threads that answered you. This is where relationships start.
Two or three of your own posts a week sit on top of that, and the volume climbs slowly: a new account going straight to thirty replies a day looks exactly like what X removes.
6. Use your analytics weekly
Once a week, not daily. Five numbers:

Was anyone in the room?
Profile visits
Did the reply earn a click?
Relevant follows
Right people, not raw count.
Conversations
Threads that became a back-and-forth.
Leads & intros
The only metric that pays rent.
7. Turn replies into relationships
The compounding part is recognition, not reach. Come back to threads that answered you, and reply to the same twenty accounts until your name stops being new. Intros, clients and collaborators come from the small tier.
And post 2–3 times a week yourself. That's what the profile visit lands on.
